Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
The Beer App ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
Information we collect
Account details you provide: a username, an optional email and/or phone number, and a password (stored only as a secure one-way hash). Profile details: a photo, bio, and the city/state/country you choose to share. Content you create: beer photos, captions, comments, direct messages, group posts, and beer submissions. Subscription & purchase data: your plan and status — payments are handled by the App Store, Google Play, or Stripe, and we never receive your full card number. Device & technical data: a push-notification token (if you enable reminders), app version and device type, time zone, IP address, and — only with your permission — your approximate location for local rankings, plus basic server logs.
How we use it
To operate the app: show your posts, run feeds, rankings and achievements, deliver messages and notifications, process subscriptions, keep the service secure, respond to reports, comply with the law, and improve the app. We do not sell your personal information.
Automated decision-making & AI
We do not use artificial intelligence, machine learning, or automated decision-making to profile you or make significant decisions about you. Moderation relies on user reports, basic text checks, and human review. If we ever add AI features, we'll update this policy and disclose it first.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the providers that help us run the app, and only what each needs:
- Render — application hosting
- MongoDB Atlas (MongoDB, Inc.) — database
- Cloudinary — image hosting and delivery
- Apple App Store & Google Play — subscription billing
- Stripe — payment processing (where card billing is offered)
- Auth0 (Okta, Inc.) — sign-in and authentication
- Expo, plus Apple/Google push services — push notifications
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — crash and error reporting for the app. Receives a technical error report and your account ID so a bug can be diagnosed; it does not receive your name, email, photos or messages, and screen-session replay is disabled.
- An email (SMTP) provider — transactional emails such as password resets
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our users. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
This website
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and makes no third-party requests as it loads — the fonts, styles and images all come from this domain, so nothing about your visit is shared with any other company just by browsing. Our web server keeps short-lived request logs (IP address, page requested, time) to keep the site secure and working; these are not used to profile you.
Analytics & your choice. If we enable analytics, we use a privacy-first, cookieless provider that counts page views without profiling you or setting advertising cookies — and it loads only after you accept the banner shown on your first visit. Decline and nothing analytics-related loads at all. Your accept/decline choice, and your light/dark preference, are stored on your own device (in local storage, not a cookie) and never leave it. You can change your mind any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
What other users can see
Content you post is visible to other users as you choose — globally, by region, within groups, or in direct messages — along with your username and public profile. Images you upload are delivered through our image CDN (Cloudinary) and are accessible to the people you share them with.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete individual posts in the app — which removes the post and its stored image — and you can delete your entire account at any time in Settings, which permanently removes your account and associated content, including uploaded images, from our live systems (residual copies may remain briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten). Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel that in your device's subscription settings.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (e.g., the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California and other US states), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — which we don't do. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Use the in-app tools or email support@thebeerapp.app.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
Security & international transfers
Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, traffic is encrypted in transit over HTTPS, and access to data is limited. No method is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures. We operate from and use providers in the United States and other countries, so your data may be processed outside your own.
Age
The Beer App concerns alcohol and is intended only for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the legal drinking age.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new date and, where appropriate, notified in the app.
